Week 2, Day 2; Tuesday Morning.

After spending the morning on the Upper Terrace, our overall goal for the day was to get to our Old Faithful cabin by that evening. The long vertical map to the left shows the entire trip. Our immediate goal was to the Norris, Geyser Basin where there are many active geysers to see. We heard that the day before, while we were walking along the Yellowstone Canyon trail, Steamboat Geyser had erupted for the first time in four years and was still smoldering. We saw it from a distance still smoldering away in the picture below.

This makes me sorry we didn't come here yesterday -- although we might not have been able to get so close.
And this is Pearl Geyser. Behind it must be Porkchop Geyser.
I waited and waited for the little thing to splurt when I was ready to take the digital picture. I think it's Palpitator Spring.
This means we are coming to some waterfalls, I guess.
This is our entry into the Old Faithful area. I see the old geyser is going off as we enter.
Thar she blows. It's going off every 90 minutes.
We were walking along the circle trail shown above. It's a detail of the area marked "Information Station, Museum, and Bookstore" in the map upper left. Everything was closed, but we could walk the trail.
What that sign just above this sentence says:
The discussion to the left really explains the colors.
This is Veteran Geyser -- scroll up to the map.
The pictures above and below are candidates for the best post card view on this trail.

This was taken for the little splurt - but I liked the colors.

They were right.

We checked into our cabin, and noticed that out of our door, we could view Old Faithful. There sits Marv, waiting for it to go off.
We'll see this many times before we leave.

Week 2, Day 3; Wednesday
We got up bright and early on Wednesday morning. Elaine managed to take this picture of our car with frost just clearing off the back window.
They predicted 7:50, so I started taking a picture every two minutes. The one to the right is at 7:40.

7:42 A.M. from the front of the lodge. All those other background geysers will be described close up in our next walk.

By now, I had my coolpix. This is at 7:46 with the telephoto.

7:49, one minute before it's scheduled blow.

I noticed at 7:39 A.M. that Ol' Faithful looked like more than a smolder, so I went to the lodge to see when it would go off. Note the other geysers in the background. They will be described later in this page.
7:44 from the same place.  Lots of little things going off too.

This is at 7:48.

This is Old Faithfull at its fullest, 7:40 AM.  To the left is an up-close shot with the telephoto. We took many more, but I think you get the idea from this coverage. We are about to take a very interesting walk to see all the other sights.

Now, join us in our exploration of the Old Faithful tourist area.
